DOHA: Pakistan and Qatar have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic relations and expanding cooperation across several key sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, information technology, food security and infrastructure.
The commitment emerged during the second meeting of the Pakistan-Qatar Joint Task Force on Trade and Investment, co-chaired by Federal Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs, Dr Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, in Doha.
The meeting reviewed progress since the task force’s inaugural session in April 2026 and discussed practical measures to increase bilateral trade, facilitate investment and establish industrial partnerships.
Pakistan urged Qatar to support the early signing of the proposed Pakistan-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Free Trade Agreement, which could improve market access for businesses across the region.
Islamabad also sought the removal of restrictions on Pakistani bone-in meat exports to Qatar and highlighted its efforts to address animal health and food safety concerns.
Agriculture and food security remained central to the discussions. Pakistan proposed cooperation between the Trading Corporation of Pakistan and Qatar’s Hassad Food for rice supplies. It also invited Qatari investors to explore opportunities in grain storage, modern farming, cold storage and agricultural technology.
Additionally, Pakistan presented investment opportunities in electric vehicles, digital infrastructure, maritime transport and the proposed Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway.
The Pakistani delegation also proposed an investment fund covering infrastructure, agriculture, information technology and industrial development.
Both countries agreed to strengthen follow-up mechanisms and accelerate the operationalisation of 11 technical working groups to translate discussions into practical economic cooperation.
