Participants in an online discussion called for a “Pak-China plus” campaign to address the difficulties arising from regional tensions.
Devcom-Pakistan, DTN, and Friends of China held a webinar on the topic “Where does CPEC stand in the growing global scenario?” on Saturday.
Prof. Victor Gao, Vice President of the Beijing-based Centre for China and Globalisation (Beijing), warned that the so-called superpower is attempting to set the South Asian region ablaze.
Because of geopolitical aspirations, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is at risk, according to those who spoke on the subject
President Xi Jinping’s aggressive rail and road connectivity and trade regime, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), could be hampered by the intensifying cold war strategies and growing interest of the United States, the United Kingdom, and NATO countries in the expanded region.
Considering the US forces’ hasty exit from Afghanistan, it was argued that a picture of the shifting global landscape is emerging. As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine deepens, so does the threat to the region’s future economic development and connection, according to those who spoke out.
They claimed that a seismic upheaval in the global order could not be ruled out in the Indo-Pacific area.
The region will be severely harmed if the Russia-Ukraine direction is adopted. There are billions of lives and livelihoods at risk. It is imperative that all players and governments work together to find a solution.
Regardless of the danger, it was stressed that China will not compromise on its territorial, economic, or geopolitical interests.
Prof. Victor Gao encouraged both governments to establish the Pak-China plus campaign for CPEC 2.0, as well as cooperative IT solutions and software development involving Pakistan’s young.
