Pakistan and Brazil have agreed to strengthen military cooperation following a meeting between their senior military officials in Rawalpindi on Monday.
A high-level Brazilian delegation, led by Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces, met Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir at General Headquarters.
Defence And Regional Security Discussed
During the meeting, both sides discussed matters of mutual interest, the regional security situation and opportunities to expand bilateral defence and security cooperation.
The military leaders expressed satisfaction with the longstanding friendly relations between Pakistan and Brazil. They also agreed to further strengthen collaboration between their armed forces.
Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to developing stronger defence ties with Brazil. Meanwhile, Admiral Freire praised the professionalism and operational preparedness of Pakistan’s armed forces.
The Brazilian military chief also acknowledged Pakistan’s contributions to regional peace and stability. The discussions reflected both countries’ interest in maintaining closer engagement on security-related matters.
Countries Explore Broader Bilateral Engagement
The visiting admiral received a guard of honour from a tri-services contingent upon his arrival at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
Pakistan and Brazil have previously explored ways to expand economic and diplomatic relations. In 2018, representatives from both countries discussed increasing bilateral trade and establishing a joint chamber of commerce and industry to facilitate businesspeople and investors.
The latest military engagement provides another opportunity to strengthen ties between the two countries. Greater defence cooperation could support continued dialogue on regional security and other shared interests.
Both sides have expressed their willingness to build on their longstanding relations and pursue further collaboration. However, specific new agreements or implementation timelines were not announced following Monday’s meeting.
