A Pakistan Air Force Group Captain lost his life after intervening to protect a woman in Islamabad. The tragic incident occurred on Ninth Avenue on Sunday. Police have launched an investigation into the fatal shooting.
Officer Shot After Intervening in Alleged Harassment
According to reports, Group Captain Asim Tariq was driving through Ninth Avenue when he noticed a woman getting off a motorcycle. Moments later, the motorcyclist allegedly grabbed her arm and began pulling her. Consequently, the officer stopped his vehicle and confronted the suspect.
Police identified the suspect as Saad. Witnesses said the officer asked him to behave appropriately. However, the suspect allegedly became aggressive and opened fire. Asim Tariq suffered critical injuries and later succumbed to them.
According to the woman’s statement, Saad was her colleague and had offered her a ride to work. However, she said he diverted the motorcycle toward another route instead of the office. Therefore, she became suspicious and resisted when he allegedly grabbed her arm.
The woman told police that Group Captain Asim Tariq stepped in to protect her. She said he sacrificed his life while trying to rescue her from the situation. Investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The martyred officer leaves behind his widow, a son, and a daughter. News of his death prompted widespread tributes on social media. Many people praised his courage and selfless actions.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed grief over the officer’s death. He offered condolences to the bereaved family following the tragedy. Additionally, he sought a detailed report from the Islamabad Inspector General of Police regarding the incident.
