CENTCOM Reports Interceptions of Missiles and Drones Targeting Gulf States
The United States carried out strikes against an Iranian military ground control facility and intercepted multiple missile and drone threats targeting Gulf nations on Tuesday, according to a statement issued by US Central Command (CENTCOM).
CENTCOM said American forces launched what it described as โself-defense strikesโ against a military command site on Qeshm Island after detecting and neutralizing three Iranian one-way attack drones allegedly aimed at vessels operating in regional waters.
According to the statement, the incident triggered a rapid escalation as Iran subsequently launched several missiles toward Bahrain and Kuwait. Air defense systems operated by the United States and Bahrain intercepted three incoming missiles, while two additional missiles reportedly failed before reaching their intended targets in Kuwait.
Furthermore, CENTCOM stated that its forces remain on high alert amid continued tensions in the Gulf region and ongoing concerns regarding maritime security.
US Military Disables Commercial Vessel Near Iranian Waters
Earlier in the day, American forces also disabled an oil tanker that was reportedly heading toward an Iranian port after the vessel failed to comply with repeated warnings.
According to CENTCOM, the Botswana-flagged tanker ignored multiple instructions issued over a 24-hour period while approaching Iranโs Kharg Island. In response, a US aircraft fired a missile into the shipโs engine compartment, rendering the vessel inoperable.
The military command said the action marked the sixth time since April 13 that US forces have disabled a commercial vessel attempting to reach Iranian ports amid the enforcement of maritime restrictions in the region.
Additionally, CENTCOM noted that a similar operation took place last week in the Gulf of Oman, where a Gambia-flagged vessel was disabled after reportedly disregarding more than 20 warnings from US forces.
Meanwhile, military tensions have continued to rise following a series of incidents involving drones, missile launches and maritime confrontations near the Strait of Hormuz.
On Monday, American forces announced strikes against Iranian radar installations and drone command centers in Goruk and on Qeshm Island. Officials said the operation also destroyed two attack drones that posed a threat to nearby shipping routes.
The latest developments underscore growing security concerns in one of the worldโs most strategically important maritime corridors.
