ISLAMABAD: More than 67 women have been linked to terrorism across seven districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to a report issued by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).
The report reveals that 49 female suspects have been arrested, while four were killed during various counter-terror operations.
Meanwhile, over 14 women remain at large and are currently listed as wanted by authorities.
The CTD also noted a case from two years ago, in which a female suspect involved in extortion was arrested from Kohat.
Broader Counter-Terror Operations
In its broader efforts, the CTD has conducted several successful operations:
- In early 2023, the department reported that 337 personnel and civilians were killed in terror-related incidents across KP.
- In Punjab, a major terror plot was foiled in 2022 with the arrest of nine suspected terrorists, including a woman affiliated with a banned organization.
- Other recent CTD actions include arrests linked to the I-9 police station attack and the dismantling of terrorist networks operating across Punjab and KP.
Authorities continue to investigate the growing involvement of women in extremist networks, a trend that marks a concerning shift in terrorist recruitment and operational strategies in the region.
