KOHAT: Several people, including police personnel, were injured in a blast outside a mosque near the Police Lines in Kohat on Friday. The explosion occurred during Friday prayers and created a crater outside the mosque, police said.
Initial reports indicate that more than 20 people have sustained injuries in the blast. Following the blast, authorities deployed additional security personnel around the Police Lines to secure the area and prevent further threats.
Meanwhile, rescue officials said the explosion severely damaged the mosque’s outer section and caused part of a wall to collapse. Rescue teams immediately launched operations at the site and shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment.
The hospital administration declared an emergency after receiving several injured people following the explosion.
Furthermore, authorities closed the Kohat-Hangu Road to traffic as security personnel secured the area and rescue operations continued.
Police and rescue officials remained at the scene while authorities assessed the damage and determined the number of casualties.
Officials have not yet disclosed the cause of the explosion or identified those responsible for the incident.
