Over the first five days of the New Year, security forces in Kuwait apprehended more than 1,000 illegal immigrants for violating the country’s laws, marking a significant step in the ongoing campaign led by Sheikh Talal Al Khaled, who holds the position of Interior Minister and serves as the first Deputy Prime Minister.
These arrests form part of a broader initiative targeting the deportation of expatriates engaged in illegal employment within Kuwait. Emphasizing the government’s dedication to eradicating illegal labor, Sheikh Talal Al Khaled justified the campaign as a necessary measure.
In a notable effort to combat unlawfulness in the labor sector, the Interior Ministry had already deported a record number of expatriates throughout the preceding year. Government statistics reveal that from January 1 to December 31, 2023, a total of 42,892 illegal immigrants, including 17,701 women, were deported.
Administrative deportation accounted for the majority, with 42,265 expatriates expelled, comprising 24,609 men and 17,656 women. Additionally, 627 individuals, including 582 men and 45 women, were subjected to judicial deportation.
These escalating figures underscore the commitment of security forces to bolster border security and intensify campaigns aimed at curbing illegal employment in the country. The government’s unwavering stance on this issue is evident in the continuous efforts to maintain the integrity of its labor market.
