KARACHI: A massive fire destroyed more than 100 huts in a slum area of Karachi on Friday, leaving hundreds of families homeless, according to a Private channel.
Fire breaks out in Gulshan-e-Iqbal
The blaze erupted in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 19. It spread rapidly and engulfed a large portion of the settlement. Thick smoke rose high into the sky and was visible from a distance.
Moreover, residents said they tried to save their belongings, but the fire spread too quickly. Many families lost their savings, valuables, and household items within hours. Animals and birds in the area were also affected.
One affected resident said his house, loader vehicle, and Rs200,000 cash were completely destroyed in the fire.
Firefighting challenges and response
Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan said narrow access routes created difficulties for rescue teams. He added that fire tenders struggled to reach the site quickly due to lack of passage.
Furthermore, authorities deployed 11 fire tenders to bring the blaze under control. Firefighters later managed to contain the fire, and cooling operations are still underway.
Officials confirmed that no loss of life has been reported so far. However, the damage to property is extensive, and affected families are now seeking immediate assistance.
