Oman has introduced a free 14-day tourist visa for citizens of selected countries after amending its immigration and residency regulations. The new policy aims to promote tourism and make short-term travel more convenient.
The Royal Oman Police announced the measure through regulations issued by Inspector General of Police and Customs Lieutenant General Hassan bin Mohsin Al Shuraiqi.
The amendments took effect one day after their publication in the Official Gazette. However, Omani authorities have not yet announced the list of countries whose citizens will qualify for the new visa.
New visa aims to boost tourism
According to the revised regulations, only nationals of countries designated by the competent authority will be eligible for the free tourist visa.
Furthermore, visitors holding the 14-day visa may convert it into another tourist visa category before its expiry, provided they meet the applicable immigration requirements.
Officials said the measure is intended to encourage more international visitors while offering greater flexibility for travellers planning longer stays in the country.
Regulations updated under immigration law
The amendments formally add the new visa category to Article 10 of Oman’s Executive Regulations governing immigration and residency.
In addition, the visa has been included in the official schedule of entry visas under Article 29.
Authorities fixed the visa fee at zero Omani rials, making the short-term tourist permit completely free for eligible visitors.
The government expects the new policy to support tourism growth by simplifying entry procedures for approved nationalities. Officials are expected to announce the list of eligible countries through the competent authority at a later stage.
