The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has announced a reduction in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices, with the new rates coming into effect from September 1. According to the official notification issued on Sunday, the price of an LPG cylinder has been decreased by Rs14, while the per-kilogram price has been lowered by Rs1.20.
Under the revised pricing, the producer price for LPG has been set at Rs172,892 per metric ton. This is equivalent to Rs2,040 for an 11.8kg cylinder. The notification also specifies that the marketing, distribution, and transportation margin has been fixed at Rs35,000 per metric ton, ensuring transparency in the pricing structure across the supply chain.
The maximum consumer price of LPG has been established at Rs214,192 per metric ton, which translates to Rs2,527 for an 11.8kg cylinder. Accordingly, the revised maximum retail price per kilogram now stands at Rs214.19.
OGRA has emphasized that these prices will be regulated at all stages of the supply chain, including production, distribution, and retail, to protect consumers from overpricing.
The regulatory authority further clarified that producers and distributors are allowed to sell LPG at rates lower than the maximum ceiling, if feasible, providing consumers with an opportunity to benefit from competitive pricing.
The announcement comes as part of OGRA’s continued efforts to maintain stability in the energy sector and ensure affordable access to essential fuels. By regulating LPG prices effectively, the authority aims to balance producer interests with consumer welfare, while also keeping the supply chain transparent and accountable.
Consumers across the country are expected to notice the slight reduction in their LPG expenses from September 1 onwards. The price cut, though modest, provides some relief to households and businesses that rely on LPG for cooking and other energy needs. OGRA’s decision highlights the government’s commitment to monitoring fuel prices and adjusting them in line with market conditions to support citizens.
