Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has signed a contract with Canada’s Synergetic Oil Tools Inc. to introduce advanced Passive Energy Tool technology in Pakistan’s heavy crude oil wells. The partnership aims to improve production efficiency while addressing long-standing challenges associated with highly viscous crude oil.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony at OGDCL Headquarters in Islamabad. Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Ambassador Tarik Ali Khan, attended the event as the chief guest. Moreover, OGDCL Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Hayat Lak was also present.
Meanwhile, Synergetic Oil Tools President and Chief Executive Officer Brian Herman joined the ceremony virtually. Senior representatives from OGDCL, the Canadian High Commission and Synergetic Oil Tools also participated in the event.
Advanced Technology to Improve Heavy Oil Production
Under the agreement, Synergetic Oil Tools will deploy its Passive Energy Tool technology at OGDCL’s heavy oil wells. The technology is designed to strengthen flow assurance in highly viscous crude oil reservoirs.
As a result, the system will optimize fluid characteristics and improve the movement of heavy crude through production systems. Furthermore, it is expected to reduce the frequency of well workovers and minimize operational downtime.
The technology also aims to lower operating costs while reducing the need for production chemicals. Consequently, OGDCL expects greater production efficiency from heavy oil wells that have remained technically challenging.
OGDCL Focuses on Innovation for Mature Oil Fields
Speaking at the ceremony, OGDCL Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Hayat Lak said the agreement reflects the company’s commitment to modern technologies.
He said, “the partnership demonstrates OGDCL’s commitment to adopting innovative technologies to address production challenges in heavy oil reservoirs.”
He further stated, “OGDCL continues to explore opportunities with global technology providers to enhance production efficiency and maximize recovery from mature and technically challenging fields.”
His remarks highlighted the company’s continued efforts to improve production through international collaboration and technological innovation.
Pakistan and Canada Expand Energy Cooperation
Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ambassador Tarik Ali Khan also addressed the ceremony. He emphasized the growing importance of cooperation between Pakistan and Canada in the energy and critical minerals sectors.
He expressed confidence that deploying the technology would support the development of Pakistan’s upstream oil industry. Moreover, he noted that technological partnerships can strengthen collaboration between both countries in strategic sectors.
