Legal Action Triggers Online Reaction
Authorities issued a notice to social media activist Sheikh Saira from Sialkot after receiving a complaint from Khawaja Saad Rafique regarding alleged character assassination. The development quickly gained attention online and subsequently sparked widespread discussion across social media platforms.
According to available details, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) acted on the complaint submitted by the senior Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader and summoned Sheikh Saira for questioning. Soon afterward, an emotional video of Sheikh Saira surfaced online and rapidly circulated across various social media platforms.
In the viral video, Sheikh Saira appeared emotional and stated that she had always respected Khawaja Saad Rafique. Furthermore, she said that if any tweet or retweet had created misunderstandings, she sincerely apologised for it.
Questions Raised Over Summons Process
Meanwhile, Sheikh Saira also expressed concerns about the circumstances surrounding the legal process. She stated that authorities had summoned her from Sialkot to Islamabad and questioned how she would manage the travel arrangements.
She further explained that she lives alone and does not have the support of a father or husband. Therefore, she questioned whether such treatment reflected fairness for an ordinary woman facing legal proceedings. However, despite raising these concerns, she also made it clear that she intended to respect the legal process and comply with the summons.
Earlier, Khawaja Saad Rafique had approached the NCCIA and requested action under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016. In his application, he sought legal action against individuals allegedly involved in spreading false allegations and running a social media smear campaign against him in connection with the โConstitution One Project.โ
