ISLAMABAD: Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide arrived in Pakistan on Thursday for a two-day official visit, marking the highest-level engagement between Pakistan and Norway in a decade.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar received the Norwegian foreign minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office. Earlier, Additional Foreign Secretary for Europe Ambassador Ayesha Ali welcomed Eide upon his arrival at Islamabad airport.
Pakistan-Norway Relations in Focus
Eide is visiting Pakistan from August 13 to 14 at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. During his stay, the two foreign ministers will lead delegation-level talks covering the entire spectrum of Pakistan-Norway relations.
The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in trade and investment, climate change, renewable energy, education and people-to-people contacts. Both sides will also exchange views on key regional and international developments.
High-Level Engagement Between Pakistan and Norway
The Foreign Office said the Norwegian foreign minister’s visit follows sustained diplomatic engagement between the two countries. Ishaq Dar and Espen Barth Eide held telephone conversations in March and April 2026, while Norway’s State Secretary Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik visited Islamabad in May.
According to the Foreign Office, Eide’s Pakistan visit will provide an important opportunity to further strengthen the longstanding and cordial relations between Pakistan and Norway. The visit is also expected to help both countries identify new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation and expand bilateral engagement in economic, environmental and educational sectors.
