Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani expressed disappointment over the authorities’ failure to produce Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Ejaz Chaudhry in the Senate, despite repeated production orders.
While presiding over the session, Gilani asserted that such disregard for parliamentary directives cannot continue unchecked, a stance that was met with applause from the lawmakers.
The chairman had issued production orders for two PTI senators, Ejaz Chaudhry and Aon Abbas Buppi, a day earlier. However, only Buppi, who was recently arrested, was brought before the House.
During the session, Buppi thanked the chairman for issuing his production order and recounted the events leading to his arrest. He stated that at 8 a.m., around 20 individuals entered his residence, conducted a raid on his factory, and harassed him.
He further informed the Senate that some individuals forcibly entered his bedroom, assaulted him, and demanded his mobile phone.
Buppi explained that he was then presented before a judge, who questioned the charges against him. He revealed that he was accused of illegally hunting five deer.
Expressing his dismay, Buppi stated that instead of feeling relieved at being allowed to attend the Senate session, he was more troubled by the authorities’ failure to produce Senator Ejaz Chaudhry despite clear directives.
He alleged that his own production order was enforced merely as a formality to appease the chairman, as the authorities were concerned that Gilani might not preside over the session otherwise.
Buppi went on to demand the cancellation of his production order, expressing his preference to return to prison. He vowed not to participate in Senate proceedings unless Ejaz Chaudhry was also brought before the House, stating that he would seek release only through legal means.
As Buppi attempted to exit after concluding his speech, Chairman Gilani intervened and issued a formal ruling on the matter.
