Pakistanโs Foreign Office has rejected media reports claiming an upcoming visit by Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir to the United States. The clarification came during the weekly press briefing held on Thursday. The spokesperson stated that no visit has been finalised or formally agreed.
He stressed that reports suggesting certainty about the visit were misleading. According to him, there is no confirmed information regarding timing or planning. He added that official visits are always announced through formal government channels.
Clarification on Media Speculation
The spokesperson directly contradicted reports claiming the visit was already planned. He explained that the impression of finality was incorrect. He said he had no details to share about any future engagement.
Moreover, he emphasised that speculation should not replace official confirmation. He noted that government announcements precede any high-level foreign travel. Until such announcements appear, reports should be treated with caution.
Current Engagements of Field Marshal Munir
Field Marshal Munir is currently visiting Libya. During the visit, he reaffirmed Pakistanโs commitment to stronger defence cooperation. The engagement focuses on military ties and institutional collaboration.
Officials described the Libya visit as part of ongoing defence diplomacy. It reflects Pakistanโs broader regional engagement strategy. However, it has no connection to any proposed US visit.
Background of Previous US Visits
Field Marshal Munir has travelled to the United States multiple times this year. In June, he visited Washington and met President Donald Trump. That meeting marked a rare direct engagement without senior civilian officials.
In August, he returned for high-level discussions with political and military leaders. He described that visit as a new chapter in bilateral relations. He also interacted with members of the Pakistani diaspora.
In September, he again visited Washington alongside Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The meeting focused on regional security and counterterrorism cooperation. At that time, US leadership publicly praised both leaders.
Emphasis on Official Communication
The Foreign Office reiterated the importance of relying on official sources. It urged media outlets to avoid premature conclusions. Clear communication, it said, prevents confusion and misinformation.
Until an announcement is issued, no US visit should be assumed. Authorities maintain that transparency remains a priority. Any confirmed development will be shared through official channels.
