Information Minister Ataullah Tarar stated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan is unlikely to be released from prison, even after securing bail in the Toshakhana case. Speaking to Geo News on Wednesday, Tarar emphasized that there is “no possibility” of the PTI chief’s release due to other ongoing legal proceedings.
He explained that the Toshakhana case, which involves allegations of improperly profiting from state gifts, is still under trial. Tarar affirmed that substantial evidence has been collected against the former prime minister, reinforcing the state’s case.
The information minister further highlighted that Imran Khan remains in custody because bail has not been granted in at least eight separate cases linked to the May 9 protests. These protests, marked by violence and property damage, led to widespread arrests and charges against PTI leaders and supporters.
Tarar’s remarks suggest that even if bail is secured in one case, the numerous other charges against the PTI founder are likely to keep him behind bars. The statement comes amid growing legal and political challenges for Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated since earlier this year following his removal from power.
