The Punjab government has approved a new selection mechanism for recruiting doctors and medical specialists across the province. Officials announced the decision on Friday to improve transparency and efficiency in hiring.
Under the new policy, special selection committees will recruit medical professionals for newly established healthcare centers. Moreover, the government aims to strengthen healthcare services through a merit-based recruitment process.
Recruitment for BS-17 and higher medical positions will take place strictly on merit. High-level selection committees will oversee the hiring process to ensure fairness and transparency.
High-Level Committees To Oversee Medical Hiring
The government has also finalized the recruitment procedure for doctors and specialists joining new health centers. However, authorities will make contract-based appointments only after committee recommendations.
Under the approved framework, the Executive Director, Principal, or Head of the institution will convene the committee. Additionally, commissioners, senior professors, and experienced government officials will participate in the selection process.
The committee members will evaluate candidates according to the approved merit criteria. Consequently, the government expects the new system to improve recruitment standards across public healthcare institutions.
Health Department Gets Formal Approval
The Punjab government’s Regulation Wing has formally authorized the Health Department to implement the recruitment mechanism. Officials believe the new policy will support transparent appointments throughout the province.
Meanwhile, the Finance Department confirmed that internal budgetary resources will fund the new recruitments. Therefore, the government will manage hiring expenses without seeking additional financial allocations.
The new mechanism reflects Punjab’s efforts to strengthen healthcare services through qualified professionals. Authorities expect the policy to improve service delivery and enhance public confidence in government healthcare institutions.
