Electricity consumers across Pakistan, including K-Electric customers, could face another tariff adjustment as NEPRA is set to hear a Rs1.7267 per unit fuel charges adjustment request for August 2026.
The hearing is scheduled for September 29, 2026, at 2pm at NEPRA Tower in Islamabad and online. The request has been submitted by the Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guarantee (CPPA-G).
The proposed adjustment is based on electricity generation and fuel costs recorded during August. However, the requested increase has not yet been approved. NEPRA will examine the data before deciding the amount that can be passed on to consumers.
14.46 Billion Units Supplied in August
According to the official data submitted to NEPRA, around 14.464 billion units of electricity were delivered to distribution companies during August.
The average cost of the electricity delivered to distribution companies was approximately Rs8.83 per unit.
The generation mix included electricity from hydropower, coal, nuclear power, gas, RLNG, furnace oil, high-speed diesel and other sources.
The data shows that electricity generated through high-speed diesel cost around Rs54 per unit. Furnace oil-based generation cost about Rs45.25 per unit, while imported RLNG generation cost around Rs45.93 per unit.
These generation costs form part of the calculations used for the monthly fuel charges adjustment.
Another Adjustment After September Bill Increase
The proposed August adjustment comes shortly after consumers faced higher electricity bills due to earlier tariff adjustments.
NEPRA had approved a Rs2.0581 per unit fuel charges adjustment for electricity consumed in July 2026. The adjustment was reflected in September bills and applied to eligible consumers of K-Electric and distribution companies.
Consumers are also paying an additional Rs0.5194 per unit quarterly adjustment, commonly reported as 52 paisas. This charge is being recovered from September through November 2026.
The latest request is therefore separate from the adjustments already being recovered through electricity bills.
NEPRA to Decide Final Amount
The Rs1.7267 per unit figure is a request submitted by CPPA-G, rather than a final tariff increase.
NEPRA’s hearing notice states that the requested adjustment is calculated against the reference fuel charges for the Ex-WAPDA distribution companies. The regulator will review the submitted generation and fuel-cost data before issuing its decision.
The hearing notice also states that, under the applicable federal government policy guidelines, the resulting fuel charges adjustment would also apply to K-Electric consumers.
The final impact on electricity bills will therefore depend on NEPRA’s decision after reviewing the August fuel costs and related adjustments.
