The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has increased electricity tariffs by Rs2.58 per unit for consumers across Pakistan.
The increase comes through monthly and quarterly fuel cost adjustments. It will place a combined additional burden of around Rs45.67 billion on electricity consumers.
July Fuel Adjustment Adds Rs33 Billion Burden
According to Nepra’s notification, electricity prices have been increased by Rs2.06 per unit under the monthly fuel cost adjustment for July 2026.
The adjustment alone will impose an additional financial burden of approximately Rs33 billion on consumers.
The revised amount will be reflected in electricity bills issued in September 2026.
Quarterly Adjustment Adds Another Rs12.67 Billion
Nepra has also approved a Rs0.52 per unit quarterly adjustment for the period from April to June 2026.
The quarterly adjustment will remain applicable from September to November 2026.
According to Nepra, this adjustment will create an additional burden of approximately Rs12.67 billion on consumers.
The quarterly adjustment will also apply to consumers of K-Electric.
Which Consumers Will Pay the Higher Charges?
The July fuel cost adjustment will apply to consumers of distribution companies, commonly referred to as XWDISCOs.
However, the notification excludes lifeline consumers, electric vehicle charging stations and prepaid electricity consumers who have opted for prepaid tariffs.
Nepra directed XWDISCOs and K-Electric to include the July 2026 fuel cost adjustment in electricity bills issued during September.
The latest increase adds to the financial pressure on households and businesses already facing high electricity costs.
Last month, Nepra had increased electricity prices by Rs0.75 per unit under the monthly fuel cost adjustment for June 2026, citing changes in fuel charges.
With the latest monthly and quarterly adjustments, consumers will now face another increase in electricity costs during the coming billing months.
