ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased electricity prices by Rs1.11 per unit under the monthly fuel price adjustment for August 2026. The increase will affect consumers across Pakistan, including customers of K-Electric, and will be reflected in their October electricity bills.
According to NEPRA’s decision, the regulator approved a fuel cost adjustment of Rs1.1086 per kilowatt-hour. The Central Power Purchasing Agency had initially requested a higher adjustment of Rs1.7267 per unit.
NEPRA calculated the increase after comparing the actual fuel cost of Rs8.2084 per unit with the reference fuel cost of Rs7.0998 per unit. The difference resulted in the approved adjustment.
The additional charge will apply to consumers served by ex-Wapda distribution companies and K-Electric. However, lifeline consumers, electric-vehicle charging stations and certain prepaid consumers will remain exempt from the adjustment.
The authority’s decision means eligible consumers will pay the additional amount in their October bills based on electricity consumed during August. If a bill has already been issued before the notification, the adjustment may be recovered in the following billing cycle.
The latest increase follows a Rs2.06 per-unit hike approved under the July fuel adjustment, which was included in September electricity bills. Consumers are also facing a separate quarterly adjustment of 52 paisas per unit.
The August adjustment is expected to place an additional financial burden of roughly Rs19 billion on electricity consumers.
NEPRA’s latest decision comes amid continuing efforts to manage fuel costs and improve the efficiency of electricity generation. The regulator has also emphasized greater use of cost-effective domestic energy sources to contain future tariff pressures.
