Yemeni government forces have claimed that 1,860 Houthi fighters have been eliminated during 2,103 military operations carried out across several fronts.
The announcement came as part of “Dawn of Yemen,” a major military campaign launched by forces loyal to Yemen’s internationally recognised government to reclaim territory held by the Houthis.
Yemeni armed forces spokesman Colonel Majid al-Nuzaili said the military conducted 2,103 precision targeting operations against Houthi positions and movements. According to the spokesman, the attacks destroyed hundreds of pieces of military equipment and damaged or destroyed numerous Houthi positions.
However, the military did not clarify how many of the 1,860 people described as “neutralised” were killed or wounded. The Houthis had not immediately issued a response to the figures, making independent verification difficult.
The “Dawn of Yemen” operation was announced this week as government forces intensified their offensive against Houthi-held areas. Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi said the campaign aims to retake Sanaa and restore state institutions under government control.
The latest escalation has also focused on areas surrounding the strategically important Bab al-Mandeb which are now in the control of the Yemeni government’s forces.
