ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has established special units to tackle fake news and what it describes as anti-state propaganda across Pakistan.
The agency has also activated cyber patrolling units in all regions to monitor online activities and cyberspace, according to an NCCIA spokesperson.
The developments were reviewed during a five-day visit to NCCIA circles across Punjab by Director General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi. During the tour, the DG inspected reporting centres, police stations and offices while meeting more than 500 complainants.
Rizvi directed officials to make the complaint and verification process more accessible and user-friendly. He also instructed officers to use available resources to ensure swift justice for victims of cybercrime.
The NCCIA chief said the agency had adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward fake news and anti-state propaganda. He stressed that investigations must remain transparent and based on merit.
During his visits, Rizvi reviewed pending complaints and cases, investigation procedures, complaint cells, FIR branches and record management.
He also instructed officers to improve the disposal of complaints and strengthen overall performance.
The agency said its latest measures aim to improve cybercrime investigations while strengthening monitoring of online content and ensuring timely action against unlawful digital activities.
