ISLAMABAD: Pakistani authorities have busted an international network allegedly producing obscene AI-generated videos targeting celebrities, officials said.
According to media reports, authorities arrested 114 foreign nationals allegedly operating the network following a tip-off.
Officials said the suspects reportedly belonged to four countries and ran an organised operation for producing and distributing explicit AI-generated content.
The authorities registered a case against the suspects under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act.
Meanwhile, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency conducted a raid at a private commercial plaza and arrested the alleged operators.
Investigators said the suspects had established a private company to produce and distribute the manipulated videos.
Pakistani Citizens Allegedly Involved
Officials said the registered case also identifies more than two dozen Pakistani citizens as alleged members of the network.
During the operation, investigators seized digital material and other evidence from the arrested foreign nationals for further examination.
Authorities are now investigating the network’s activities, connections and alleged role in producing manipulated celebrity content.
Following the arrests, the NCCIA informed the embassies of four countries about the detention of their nationals.
Officials said investigators would present the suspects before a court next week and seek physical remand for further questioning.
The development highlights growing concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence to create and distribute manipulated obscene content.
Authorities are expected to expand the investigation to identify other individuals involved in the alleged international operation.
