LAHORE: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested 59 suspects during a crackdown on three fake call centres in Lahore’s Gulberg area. The call centers were involved in defrauding foreign nationals and stealing their credit card information from hotels and other similar places.
The arrested individuals include 52 men and seven women. Officials also seized 61 laptops, 21 computers and 52 mobile phones during the operation.
The NCCIA said the suspects allegedly targeted foreign nationals by offering fake mobile phone upgrades and discounted packages. Investigators believe the group used these fraudulent offers to obtain sensitive financial information and deceive customers.
Officials further alleged that the suspects accessed restaurant data unlawfully and transferred money into their own accounts. The stolen funds were reportedly moved through trading and money transfer applications.
The agency said such activities caused financial losses to victims and damaged Pakistan’s reputation in the international digital sector. Further investigations are expected to establish the full extent of the alleged fraud and identify any additional individuals involved.
In a separate development, the NCCIA has integrated Police Helpline 15 with its complaint management system to improve coordination in cybercrime cases.
Under the new arrangement, complaints involving cybercrime received through the helpline will automatically be forwarded to the relevant NCCIA zone for investigation and legal action.
The agency’s director general said the integration covers police helpline systems across all provinces and major cities.
The initiative aims to simplify the reporting of cyber harassment, online fraud and data theft while enabling authorities to respond more efficiently.
Officials said the measures would strengthen cooperation between police departments and cybercrime investigators and improve efforts to protect citizens from digital financial crimes.
