The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will make its decision about the Toshakhana reference against Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), today.
At 2:00 pm today, the election commission will make the reserved decision in the Toshakhana reference against former prime minister Imran Khan public.
The former premier was among the parties to whom the commission sent notices.
ECP had reserved its decision in the Toshakhana reference case against the PTI chairman as of September 19.
In his arguments before the ECP during the hearing, Barrister Ali Zafar stated that the courts, not the Election Commission of Pakistan, have the authority to revoke a candidate’s eligibility under Article 62-1-F.
The hearings were overseen by a five-member panel that included Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja. The PTI chairman was represented in the case by attorney Ali Zafar.
Ali Zafar, a barrister, questioned whether a court had shown that Khan was not Sadiq and Ameen. The disqualification issue under Article 62-1-F of the constitution, according to Khan’s attorney, cannot be handled by the ECP because it is not a court but rather a commission.
After hearing the arguments made by the PTI attorney, the ECP decided to defer its decision in the Toshakhana case against Imran Khan.
After the Pakistan Information Commission (PIC) accepted an application regarding the matter and instructed the Cabinet Division to provide information about the gifts received by the then-prime minister Imran Khan from foreign dignitaries, the Toshakhana case was brought before the electoral watchdog last year.
It is important to note that Imran Khan is under investigation for allegedly concealing Toshakhana gifts.
Election code violation case
Earlier in the day, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) reserved its verdict against former prime minister Imran Khan in a case related to code of conduct violations during the Charsadda by-poll.
