The Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) rejected the Punjab government’s inquiry committee on the recent discovery of “hundreds” of bodies on the roof of Nishtar Hospital in Multan and urged to the Supreme Court to take note of this inhumane tragedy and grant the demand for justice.
Nasarullah Baloch, the chairman of the VBMP, expressed these opinions at a news conference. He noted that the order to register FIRs, conduct DNA tests, and investigate the cause of death issued by the top court in 2015 in response to a petition filed by his organisation regarding the recovery of mutilated bodies was never carried out.
Additionally, he said that the court’s order for DNA testing of the remains found in the Khuzdar district’s Totak area was not carried out.
Later, Nasarullah Baloch and a number of other human rights advocates spoke at a rally outside the Quetta Press Club, where a number of political figures and relatives of the missing had assembled, holding signs and chanting anti-extrajudicial death of the missing.
Buried bodies
The management of Nishtar Hospital and the Edhi Foundation, meanwhile, buried the remains of 66 decaying bodies on Wednesday.
The issue came to light last week when some films showing the dead dumped at Nishtar Hospital’s rooftop were widely shared on social media.
Chaudhry Zaman Gujjar, the chief minister of Punjab’s advisor, visited the hospital and gave instructions to the relevant authorities to take action against the staff members responsible for improper management of the unclaimed bodies.
