Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former prime minister, held a second telethon on Sunday to fundraise for flood victims; the telethon has so far raised Rs5 billion.
Pakistanis from local to international generously donated to their fellow citizens at this time of need. Imran Khan, spoke at the telethon and stated that although Pakistan contributes less than 1% of the world’s carbon footprint, “we are among the most affected countries by climate change. Imran Khan claimed that by not building more dams, we “have pushed ourselves into the calamity.”
Senator Faisal Javed Khan claimed that over a two-hour flood telethon, the former prime minister raised Rs. 5.21 billion in donations.
According to the PTI head, the situation is worse than the floods of 2010 and more than 33 million people have been seriously affected by the flooding. He continued that during this challenging moment, the country will need to unite.
According to the country’s finance minister, Miftah Ismail, “devastating floods have cost the country close to $18 billion in structural, human, and property losses.”
Sania Nishtar is in charge of managing the telethon funds. According to Nishtar, the collected money would be distributed among the affected households using data from the Ehsaas programme.
The chief ministers of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pervaiz Elahi and Mahmood Khan, the former assistant to the premier for social protection, Sania Nishtar, as well as other celebrities and politicians, participated in Imran Khan’s first telethon.
