On June 20, 2024, militants seized ten unarmed civilians from Shaban Picnic Point, a popular recreational spot in Balochistan, marking a disturbing incident of abduction.
Among those abducted, six individuals hailed from a single family in Quetta, as reported by Sheikh Shan Raza, a resident deeply affected by the tragedy. Raza’s three sons—Farhan Raza, Hassan Raza, and Rehan Raza—were among the victims, alongside his nephew and two family friends who were visiting.
According to Raza, the militants conducted checks on the victims’ identification cards before forcibly taking them away. The abducted individuals, all young men, were engaged in various small-scale occupations to support their livelihoods.
As of the latest update, 26 days have elapsed since the abduction, yet efforts to locate and secure the safe return of the victims have yielded no positive outcomes. The families of those taken hostage have made fervent appeals to the government, urging heightened measures and intensified actions to ensure the safe release of their loved ones.
The abduction took place amidst Eid celebrations, a time when families traditionally gather at such scenic spots for leisure and festivities. The sudden and violent nature of the incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the region.
The plight of the abducted individuals underscores the broader concerns regarding security and safety in Balochistan, where incidents of militant activity continue to disrupt civilian life. The community remains hopeful for swift and decisive action from authorities to facilitate the return of those unjustly taken, restoring a sense of security and normalcy for affected families.
