According to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh police, a suspected terrorist who was allegedly planning to kill a Chinese doctor in Hyderabad and was connected to those responsible for a similar attack on Chinese dentists in Karachi in September was detained on Thursday.
According to a statement from the CTD spokesperson, an operation was carried out in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar by members of the department and a federal intelligence agency after they learned the suspect was in the neighbourhood.
Afzal Lund alias Aafi, a member of the outlawed Sindh Revolutionary Army (SRA), was subsequently detained, according to the statement, and a 30-bore unlicensed pistol, a 5-round magazine, and a motorcycle were taken from his possession.
According to the CTD, the suspect acknowledged during questioning that he had spoken with SRA leader Zulfiqar Khaskheli, who was in Germany.
According to the statement, Khaskheli was lending Lund money, and Lund had purchased the motorcycle and weapons with the money he had sent.
According to the CTD, Lund had finished the reconnaissance for the assassination of the Chinese doctor in Hyderabad but was apprehended before committing the crime.
The CTD stated that a case had been filed against him, and an investigation had begun.
