Shahnawaz Amir, the main suspect in the murder of Sarah Inam, had his physical remand ordered by an Islamabad court extended for a further three days on Monday.
Following a disagreement over a family matter on September 23, senior journalist Ayaz Amir’s son Shahnawaz is accused of killing his wife Sarah at home.
After the physical remand period for suspect Shahnawaz ended, the police requested a three-day extension for more questioning and brought him before civil judge Aamir Aziz in court.
The investigation officer told the judge that the police needed to get Sarah Inam’s passport back.
According to him, the passport is “important evidence” because it will reveal Sarah’s travel patterns.
According to the complainants’ attorney, Sarah was killed in Shahnawaz’s home. Even 14 days after the murder, he warned that the suspect would escape if the police didn’t find Sarah’s passport.
The judge then said that the case shouldn’t be tainted by poor investigative work. The court later granted the police’s request to prolong Shahnawaz’s physical detention.
