The national flag carrier is hoping a new feature will give it and its passengers the boost they require as it struggles to attract customers in the face of an abundance of low-cost airlines in the nation.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) was given the go-ahead to install charging stations for electronic devices inside their aircraft by federal aviation minister Khawaja Saad Rafique.
Rafique hoped that the change would help PIA’s customer service standards.
The instructions were given earlier in the week as Rafique spoke at a ministry meeting. The meeting was attended by a large number of officials, including senior members of the PIA, the Airport Security Force, and the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA).
It was decided to create a five-year plan for ASF during the meeting.
Along with code sharing of PIA on numerous routes, airport amenities and security for travellers were discussed.
The federal aviation minister also called attention to problems with the airline’s reputation and expressed a desire to raise service standards across the board, including in-flight hygiene and other areas.
A review of the company’s current branding was also ordered for officials.
It was ordered to increase seat comfort, look into installing flight entertainment systems, and construct mobile charging stations inside of aircraft.
Additionally, it was decided to upgrade Karachi’s Isphahani Hanger on the infrastructure front.
