The PML-Raja N’s Sagheer Ahmed was declared the winner of the by-election for the PP-7 Rawalpindi constituency by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday morning in ISLAMABAD.
The PML-N is determined to use any and all “political options” at their disposal to keep chief minister Hamza Shahbaz in power, and the ECP notification comes just hours before the crucial Punjab chief minister election, where the odds appear to favor the PTI and PML-joint Q’s candidate, Pervez Elahi.
The ECP confirmed Raja Sagheer of the PML-victory N’s in PP-7 and issued a notification of the result.
PTI candidate Shabbir Awan had a hearing with the electoral commission the day before, challenging the verdict of the PP-7 by-election on the instructions of the Lahore High Court.
The ECP stated in its ruling that the petitioner had failed to provide evidence of by-election fraud or demonstrate the necessity of a recount.
The official notification of results shows that the PML-N candidate’s vote total climbed by 12, from 68,906 to 68,918, and that the PTI candidate’s vote total increased by 6, from 68,863 to 68,919.
Results from all 260 polling locations in the PP-7 constituency show that Ahmed received 68,906 votes, while Awan received 68,857 votes.
The election for Chief Minister of Punjab will take place at 4 p.m. today, with the opposition PTI expecting to win with ease after their 15-4 triumph in the by-elections.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid together hold 186 seats, two more than the 186 needed to elect the chief minister, while the incumbent coalition holds only 179 seats.
