Punjab has declared Saturday as the weekly holiday for government schools

The Punjab government has introduced a significant change in the schedule of government schools across the province, declaring Saturday as a weekly holiday.

This decision, announced by Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, aims to alleviate the workload of teachers and enhance their professional development through dedicated training sessions.

Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat emphasized that the introduction of a Saturday holiday is part of a broader initiative to lighten the burden on teachers in government schools. He acknowledged the challenges faced by educators, stating, “Teachers in government schools have been overburdened with work.”

Effective immediately, the teaching schedule in Punjab’s government schools will now operate from Monday to Friday.

Saturdays will be exclusively designated for comprehensive teacher training activities, including curriculum development, lesson planning, and capacity building. This restructuring allows teachers to focus on refining their teaching methodologies and skills without the constraints of regular classroom duties.

Furthermore, the minister hinted at plans to adjust the operational hours of government schools, although specific details regarding these changes are yet to be fully disclosed. The objective behind this adjustment is to optimize instructional time during weekdays, ensuring that the quality of education remains uncompromised despite the introduction of the Saturday holiday.

This reform underscores the Punjab government’s commitment to supporting teachers and enhancing the educational environment in government schools.

By prioritizing professional development and reducing the workload of educators, the government aims to improve teaching standards and ultimately enhance the learning outcomes for students across the province.
