Punjab Government imposes Section 144 in province

Ban on knives, swords, and sticks during processions.

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Home Department has made the decision to enforce Section 144 throughout the province during the first 10 days of the holy month of Muharram. This measure aims to ensure public safety and uphold law and order.

The Punjab Home Department has issued an official notification imposing Section 144 across the province during the first 10 days of Muharram-ul-Haram.

The notification issued by the Punjab Home Department includes several restrictions. These resitrictions aimed at maintaining security and ensuring public safety during religious observances. These measures entail a ban on organizing new processions, gatherings, and any activities that may disrupt public order and peace.

The purpose of implementing these restrictions is to prevent any untoward incidents or disturbances during the holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram. By enforcing these limitations, the authorities seek to uphold law and order and protect the well-being of the residents and participants involved in the religious events.

The authorities strictly prohibit the use of knives, swords, and sticks during processions. Additionally, they enforce a ban on standing on roofs along procession routes to ensure safety and prevent accidents or incidents caused by overcrowding.

In addition, the authorities enforce a ban on pillion riding during the climax of Muharram. The purpose is to minimize the risks associated with motorcycles and ensure public safety.

Authorities take this measure to reduce the number of people on the roads. The aim is to mitigate the potential for accidents and ensure a safe environment for everyone.

Section 144 empowers the local administration to prohibit assemblies, processions, and demonstrations involving five or more people to safeguard public peace and tranquility.

 Its implementation during Muharram aims to prevent untoward incidents during this sensitive period.
