Punjab government enforces Section 144 in another city

In response to security concerns, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144 in Lahore for six days, prohibiting protests and demonstrations from October 3 to October 8.

This measure aims to maintain peace and order while protecting human lives and property amidst rising security threats.

The official notification states that Section 144 bans all forms of political gatherings, including sit-ins, rallies, protests, and similar activities in the provincial capital during this period. The government believes that public gatherings could serve as potential targets for terrorist activities, prompting this preventive action.

The decision to enforce Section 144 was based on recommendations from the district administration, with the provincial Home Department indicating that efforts would be made to raise public awareness regarding the restrictions.

Authorities emphasized the need for maintaining safety and security in light of the prevailing threats.

In addition to Lahore, Section 144 will also be enforced in several other districts, including Mianwali, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, and Chiniot.

In Mianwali, the restrictions are set to last from October 1 to October 7, while in the other five districts, the enforcement will occur for two days within that timeframe.

To ensure public safety in Mianwali, two companies of Rangers have been deployed from October 1 to October 3. The Punjab Home Department’s notification clearly outlines the prohibition of all political gatherings, reflecting the government’s commitment to maintaining security and public order during this sensitive period.

With these measures in place, authorities hope to prevent any incidents that could jeopardize the safety of citizens in the province.
