Punjab’s Minister for Education has announced that both public and private schools in the province will observe a nine-day holiday break for Eidul Fitr, with schools remaining closed from March 28.
Khalid Wattoo, the Secretary of Schools, confirmed that government schools will reopen on April 7, while the annual exam results will be announced on April 4.
This decision aligns with the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s forecast, which predicts that Eidul Fitr will be celebrated on March 31, a Monday. The extended holiday break will give students and teachers the opportunity to celebrate the festival before the new academic year begins.
Earlier, the federal government officially declared public holidays for Eidul Fitr, granting a three-day break from March 31 to April 2, as confirmed in a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Wednesday.
Sindh Government Takes Action to Prevent Fare Overcharging During Eid
In an effort to prevent fare overcharging during Eidul Fitr, the Sindh government has cancelled the holidays of all officers and staff in the transport department, ensuring they remain on duty throughout the festive period.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced this measure on Saturday, stating that transport officials would monitor fares closely as part of a province-wide crackdown on overcharging by transporters.
“Complaints of overcharging are common during Eid, and we are committed to making sure citizens do not pay more than the officially approved fares,” Mr. Memon said.
Officers from the Sindh Transport Authority, along with regional and district transport bodies, will be actively deployed to address complaints swiftly. The minister warned that strict action would be taken against violators of fare regulations and urged the public to report any incidents of excessive fare collection so authorities could take immediate action.
