PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has intensified the demand to declare the election results in the Rawalpindi division null and void following the resignation of Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaqat Ali Chatha. The Commissioner resigned from his post, taking responsibility for the alleged rigging that marred the 2024 elections.
Commissioner Chatha candidly admitted to rigging during the elections, acknowledging that candidates who had been leading in their constituencies with significant margins, often over 70,000 votes, were suddenly transformed into losers due to the use of counterfeit seals under his supervision.
In response to these revelations, Barrister Gohar called for an immediate and thorough inquiry into the rigging allegations of the former Commissioner of Rawalpindi division. He stressed the need for transparency and accountability to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
Gohar highlighted the discrepancy between the initial results indicated by Form 45 and the subsequent outcomes recorded in Form 47. According to him, the winning candidates, as indicated in Form 45, were inexplicably declared as losers in Form 47, raising serious concerns about the authenticity and fairness of the electoral process.
The PTI leader underscored the gravity of Commissioner Chatha’s statements, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive investigation to uncover the extent of electoral manipulation and irregularities. He warned that failure to address these issues could result in widespread distrust in the electoral system and undermine the democratic principles based on the country’s governance.
Gohar emphasized the importance of unveiling the truth behind the rigged elections, even if it means delving into a potentially contentious process. He asserted that pursuing justice and accountability is paramount, regardless of the challenges posed by opening the proverbial Pandora’s Box.
In light of these developments, the demand for transparency, fairness, and electoral integrity resonates strongly, underscoring the imperative for thorough investigation and corrective action to restore public confidence in the electoral process.
