PTI Founder
RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the government have entered into negotiations, with the PTI emphasizing the importance of a specific timeframe to address its demands. This was highlighted by Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, following a meeting with the party’s founder, Imran Khan, at Adiala Jail.
During his visit, Barrister Gohar briefed Imran Khan on the recent round of talks with government representatives. According to Gohar, Imran Khan expressed satisfaction with the initiation of dialogue but underscored the necessity of setting a clear timeline for the discussions to ensure their effectiveness. “We have always maintained that a timeframe is essential for meaningful negotiations,” Barrister Gohar stated, adding that PTI’s demands are both legitimate and reasonable.
Gohar further revealed that PTI’s core committee has deliberated on the matter and plans to present a detailed charter of demands to the government in the upcoming rounds of talks.
Despite differences, the PTI leader expressed optimism about the success of the dialogue, stating, “It is essential to remain hopeful.”
Addressing concerns regarding the absence of key PTI members from the recent meeting, Barrister Gohar clarified that their absence was due to prior commitments, including official engagements and legal matters. He assured that all members would be present in the next round of discussions.
On the legal front, Gohar reiterated that all cases against Imran Khan are politically motivated. He noted that the PTI founder has been granted bail in all cases except one, expressing confidence that the remaining charges will also be resolved in his favor.
Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi dismissed pleas filed by Imran Khan and 10 other PTI leaders seeking relief against their indictment in the GHQ attack case.
The court ruled that the prosecution’s evidence is sufficient to proceed with the trial and stated that requests under Section 265-D are no longer applicable following the indictment. Among the other PTI leaders whose pleas were dismissed are Ali Amin Gandapur, Kunwal Shauzab, Fawad Chaudhry, and Shibli Faraz.
The prosecution in the case was represented by Rana Rafaqat Zahoor Shah, while Imran Khan’s legal team included Muhammad Faisal Malik and Faisal Farid Chaudhry. The court’s decision has paved the way for the trial to move forward as both parties continue to navigate the legal and political challenges.
