Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in London for a brief visit ahead of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. He touched down at Luton Airport, where he was welcomed by Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Dr. Muhammad Faisal, along with UK government officials. Accompanying him were his son, Suleman Shehbaz Sharif, and Afzaal Bhatti, Pakistan’s newly appointed ambassador to Morocco. The premier is set to depart for the United States from London on September 23.
On X (formerly Twitter), PM Shehbaz shared his enthusiasm, stating, “Departing for New York to represent Pakistan at the 79th UN General Assembly. Looking forward to a busy week full of engagements.” He emphasized the agenda, which includes addressing global issues, promoting peace, development, and climate action, while presenting Pakistan’s perspective to the world.
A source close to the PM noted that he plans to spend Sunday at his Edgware Road flat and will fly to New York early Monday, with no official engagements scheduled for Sunday.
On Friday, during an event for Defence and Martyrs Day at GHQ in Rawalpindi, PM Shehbaz affirmed that “the country will not compromise on sovereignty.” He highlighted the importance of peace, stating, “Nations achieve prosperity by embracing peace. Pakistan seeks peaceful relations with its neighbors, as maintaining peace is our top priority.” He also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional stability and its significant role in combating terrorism, asserting that “the borders of Pakistan symbolize peace.”
