Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi chaired a review meeting on the enhancement of Islamabad police stations on Saturday. During the session, he announced plans to upgrade the police stations in the federal capital to align with the ‘Smart Policing’ model.
Naqvi emphasized that traditional police stations have become associated with fear and discomfort, making citizens hesitant to visit them. He noted that his personal visits to various police stations revealed their poor conditions and outdated facilities.
“Islamabad represents Pakistan on the global stage, and it is crucial that we transform it into a world-class city by adopting modern, smart policing techniques,” Naqvi said. He assured that all necessary resources would be allocated to implement this initiative, which will involve upgrading the police stations in a phased approach.
The Interior Minister specified that the new smart police stations would feature well-mannered and educated officers to enhance service quality. He emphasized the importance of preparing a high-quality design for the upgrades that is cost-effective.
In addition to station upgrades, Naqvi directed that land be identified for police stations currently operating from makeshift or rented spaces. He stressed that there would be no compromise on merit during police recruitment, with a focus on selecting young, fit, and educated individuals who meet the established criteria.
The meeting also highlighted the need for improving interactions with complainants to foster a more positive and supportive environment.
The review meeting was attended by key officials, including Federal Secretary Interior Khurram Ali Agha, Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa, and DIG Operations, among others. The gathering underscored the commitment to reforming the police infrastructure in Islamabad and ensuring that it meets the highest standards of efficiency and service.
