SIALKOT/ISLAMABAD: Police in Daska Tehsil, Sialkot, have concluded their investigation into the murder of a young girl, identifying her mother-in-law’s relative, Naveed, as the main suspect.
The case unfolded when the victim’s father reported her missing several months ago. The investigation revealed that the victim’s mother-in-law, Sughran Bibi; her sister-in-law Yasmeen; Yasmeen’s son; and Naveed, a relative from Lahore, were all implicated in the murder, as well as in the dismemberment and disposal of the body.
The police have since arrested Sughran, Yasmeen, and Naveed, who confessed to the crime during questioning. Investigators have recovered the murder weapon and two of the victim’s mobile phones.
According to police, the victim, Zara, the daughter of a Gujranwala-based ASI Shabir Ahmed, married her cousin Qadeer four years ago. Shortly after the wedding, Qadeer moved with Zara to Saudi Arabia, where they had a son, Shafaq. Problems arose when Qadeer began depositing his earnings into Zara’s account, which sparked disputes between her and her mother-in-law, Sughran.
Sughran initially tried to force a divorce by accusing Zara of misconduct, but when this failed, she allegedly began plotting the murder with her daughter Yasmeen.
When Zara returned to Pakistan a month and a half ago, Sughran and Yasmeen involved Naveed for help, promising him assistance in migrating to Italy. The group allegedly killed Zara by suffocating her with a pillow, then dismembered her body and burned her face to prevent identification. Naveed transported the remains to Lahore, while Sughran, Yasmeen, and Yasmeen’s son disposed of the body parts in a drain.
The case came to light after Zara’s father filed the missing person’s report, and during the investigation, the confession of Yasmeen’s son led to the revelation of the full murder plot.
