On Monday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a two-day trip to Saudi Arabia to attend the investment conference known as “Davos in the desert.”
An official announced that PM Sharif will be one of the conference’s featured speakers and that he will take the opportunity to emphasize investment prospects in Pakistan.
“Investing in Humanity: Enabling a New Global Order” is the conference’s theme.
Since 2017, the event taking place in Riyadh has occurred every year.
6000 people from around the world, including senior corporate executives of global corporations, policymakers, investors, entrepreneurs, and young leaders, will attend this year’s edition, which runs from Tuesday to Thursday.
The Future Investment Initiative Institute, which is not formally connected to the Saudi government, functions under the patronage of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, is the conference’s host.
The murder of writer Jamal Khashoggi overshadowed the investment conference’s second edition in 2018, and it is taking place this year amid a dispute between the US and Saudi Arabia over Opec’s production cut.
The divide has prevented organisers from inviting US officials to this year’s gathering. In order to keep the conference’s focus on business, the organisers claim they do not want politics to take centre stage. However, about 400 prominent US business leaders have indicated that they will attend the event.
Pakistan supported the Kingdom in its dispute with the US over the reduction in oil production.
In addition to taking part in the conference, PM Sharif is also set to meet with Saudi officials there.
