Later this week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will go to Samarkand, Uzbekistan to take part in the Council of Heads of State (CHS) annual meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), where climate change will be discussed.
Around 33 million people in Pakistan have been impacted by unprecedented rainfall and flash floods, which have led to $30 billion in estimated economic losses and one of the deadliest monsoon seasons Pakistan has ever seen, with nearly 1,400 fatalities.
The premier will travel to Uzbekistan from September 15 (Thursday) to 16 (Friday), according to a leaflet made available by the Foreign Office on Tuesday. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who will preside over the meeting, invited the premier to come.
The council, which determines the organization’s strategy, prospects, and priorities, is the SCO’s highest forum, according to the FO.
The SCO leaders will discuss significant global and regional concerns at the upcoming CHS, including as climate change, food security, energy security, and sustainable supply chains. According to the FO handout, they would also ratify agreements and papers that would outline the future course of cooperation among SCO member nations.
The premier will meet with other participating leaders on the sidelines in addition to attending the summit.
