PM Shehbaz Sharif Proposes Political Dialogue Committee During Visit to Fazl’s Residence

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made a significant move on Thursday by visiting the residence of Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), where he proposed the formation of a committee aimed at fostering mutual cooperation to address and resolve various political matters.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Shehbaz Sharif was warmly received by Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

During the visit, the prime minister expressed concern for Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s well-being and lauded his ongoing efforts to champion a peaceful struggle in defense of democratic values. Shehbaz Sharif also praised the senior politician for his significant contributions to religious matters.

This visit holds significance against the backdrop of ongoing political negotiations and discussions in the country. Notably, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has already signaled its readiness for dialogue with opposition parties.

Earlier, on May 19, Maulana Fazlur Rehman confirmed that JUI-F had sought guarantees from PTI before considering joining the latter’s opposition alliance, Tehreek Tahafuz Aain-e-Pakistan (TTAP).

Following a meeting in Islamabad, where PTI leaders were also present, Maulana Fazlur Rehman clarified that while discussions were underway, JUI-F had not yet made a final decision regarding its participation in the alliance.

In response to a question about seeking guarantees from PTI before initiating any anti-government movement, Maulana Fazlur Rehman affirmed the necessity of measures to establish trust during serious negotiations.

He posed a rhetorical question about whom they should engage in talks with, whether it should be the prime minister, the president, or the army chief.

The proposed committee by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif indicates a proactive approach towards engaging with political stakeholders, potentially paving the way for constructive dialogue amidst political tensions.

This move underscores Shehbaz Sharif’s commitment to seeking consensus and resolving issues through peaceful means, reflecting his leadership’s stance on promoting political stability and democratic values in Pakistan.

As discussions unfold and negotiations continue, the outcomes of these diplomatic efforts could significantly shape the political landscape and future dynamics between the ruling party and the opposition blocs in Pakistan.
