Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shahbaz were cleared by the Special Court, Central, on Wednesday in the Rs16 billion money laundering case that the Federal Investigation Agency had brought against them.
The FIA prosecutor informed the court that no money had been directly put into the accounts of the father-son team before the court rendered its decision in the massive money laundering case against the Shehbaz family.
The father-son pair, served with a summons today, chose not to show up in court after their attorney requested an exemption on the grounds that Hamza was ill and PM Shehbaz had obligations.
“Truth has won,” Shehbaz declares.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif maintained a close eye on the issue even though he was out of the country when the decision was made and tweeted about his acquittal.
Shehbaz said in the social media post that a fictitious, politically motivated case of money laundering against him had been dropped.
He continued by saying that the case was the worst illustration of keeping the state hostage in order to harm political rivals. He claimed that despite their best efforts, his critics could hold their heads high in front of the law and the people.
Hina Pervaiz Butt, an MPA for the PML-N, claimed that a different case “proven to be purely a political vendetta against the Sharif family.”
“No amount of lies can stop the naked flood of Truth. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz stand vindicated […] Remember Sharifs can’t be intimidated and can’t be bowed down,” she added.
