Shehbaz will seek the council’s advice on budget and economic policies for the upcoming fiscal year.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has established a nine-member Economic Advisory Council, as per a notification issued by the Finance Division.
According to the notification, the council will be chaired by the Prime Minister himself. Its members include Jahangir Tareen, Saqib Shirazi, Shahzad Saleem, Musadaq Zulqarnain, Dr. Ejaz Nabi, Asif Peer, Ziad Bashir, and Salman Ahmed.
The Economic Advisory Council is tasked with reviewing the economy, proposing measures, assessing subsidies, financial adjustments, and providing recommendations for policymaking to enhance the economy.
The Prime Minister will also engage with the council on budgetary matters and economic policies for the forthcoming fiscal year. Additionally, there may be significant discussions and consultations concerning ongoing negotiations with the IMF.
Justice Muneeb Akhtar has taken the oath as the acting Chief Justice of Pakistan
Justice Muneeb Akhtar has been inaugurated as the interim Chief Justice of Pakistan following the departure of CJP Qazi Faez Isa for an overseas conference. Justice Yahya Afridi administered the oath to Justice Akhtar.
During Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s absence from May 18 to 25 for his trip to Azerbaijan to attend the Conference of Chief Justices of ECO countries, Justice Akhtar assumed the role of acting chief justice.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Supreme Court judges and senior lawyers.
Although Justice Mansoor Ali Shah is the most senior judge of the Supreme Court after the Chief Justice, he is also abroad, hence Justice Akhtar was appointed as the acting CJP.
