Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharifappointed as the vice-chair of the COP27 United Nations Climate Change Conference, it was announced.
Pakistan was given the designation among the 195 United Nations member states as a result of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s persuasive advocacy of the urgent need for a climate action plan in international and regional forums.
President of Egypt Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi will preside over the meeting. He has extended an invitation to PM Shehbaz to co-chair the COP-27 roundtable discussion with the Norwegian prime minister.
The conference will take place from November 6–8 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
Global leaders think tanks, and heads of state and international financial organisations will attend.
The United Nations will hold its 27th conference to discuss the issues surrounding climate change and the need for long-term solutions.
Following the recent floods, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convincingly advocated for quick action on climate change at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State and Government in Samarkand.
Several nations have agreed with the prime minister’s call for international collaboration to confront the problem of climate change.
