Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the cessation of unannounced power cuts nationwide and the minimization of outages on unprofitable distribution lines.
This decision was made during a high-level meeting convened in Islamabad to tackle issues concerning electricity theft, demand, supply, and power interruptions.
Chairing the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif received a detailed briefing from the Ministry of Energy, which included updates on discussions between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and the energy minister.
Sources indicate that the prime minister stressed the urgency of eliminating unannounced power cuts, which have been causing significant inconvenience to the public, particularly amidst the sweltering summer temperatures.
Additionally, he mandated a reduction in the duration of outages on financially unsustainable distribution lines.
“People are encountering challenges due to the intensity of the heat,” Prime Minister Sharif remarked, highlighting the critical need for a dependable electricity supply.
According to the Energy Ministry, current instances of load shedding are primarily concentrated on feeders with high losses. The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assured the meeting of proactive measures to combat electricity theft in the province.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the progress reported by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and stressed that preventing electricity theft is a shared responsibility among all relevant institutions.
He directed for the utmost relief to be extended to the public during the hot weather, signaling a robust governmental dedication to tackling the energy crisis and enhancing citizens’ quality of life.
Meanwhile, citizens are grappling with hardships due to the extreme heatwave prevailing across the country. Reports from Jhang, along with other areas, indicate an impending threat of an extreme heatwave, resulting in a significant number of people falling ill.
Medical experts urged citizens to adhere to precautionary measures to mitigate the impact of the heatwave.
