ISLAMABAD: According to a Rescue 1122 official, a tragic incident occurred on Saturday as a passenger van, traveling on the route connecting the Thakot area of Battagram to the Hazara Motorway in Mansehra, fell off a bridge.

This route had been constructed as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The accident resulted in the unfortunate deaths of six individuals, including two women, while five others sustained injuries.

Hafeezur Rehman, the district emergency officer of Rescue 1122 in Mansehra, reported to Dawn.com that the van was en route from Battagram’s Allai tehsil to Mansehra. The incident unfolded in Mansehra’s Hathimera area, where the vehicle’s driver reportedly lost control of the steering wheel. The van, carrying 13 passengers, ended up in a ditch.

Following the accident, a rescue team promptly reached the scene and extricated the deceased bodies and the injured individuals from the ditch where the van had landed. Subsequently, the bodies and the injured were transported to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital in Mansehra.

Hafeez explained that the families of those who lost their lives and the injured were duly informed about the accident. He added that the bodies would be handed over to the respective heirs after the necessary medico-legal formalities were completed.
